Based on Public Health Agency of Canada advice to limit large gatherings due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, Milton Rotary will postpone the 2020 Denim and Diamonds Spring Gala, originally scheduled for April 18th at The Grand Chalet.
 
While the net proceeds of the event were announced as equally benefiting the Milton District Hospital Foundation, and the Townsend-Smith Hospice Foundation, full refunds will be issued in the coming days to those individuals who have already purchased their tickets.
 
“We know a lot of people were once again anticipating this fundraising event this spring and will no doubt be disappointed about its postponement, but the health of our Milton community, friends, family and our members is the most important consideration above all else,” says Milton Rotary Club President John Lintack. “Milton Rotary and the gala organizing committee have been monitoring the situation closely and are taking action to do our part locally to help limit the virus’ spread. Given this event’s perennial popularity, and the current concern around large gatherings, we acknowledge that, unfortunately, it’s necessary to postpone the event to a later date to avoid putting anyone in harm’s way.”
 
A new date will be announced in the coming weeks when the current situation improves, and upon the advice of local health officials, with the aim of once again supporting the two designated beneficiaries, MDHF and TSHF.
 
 
2020 Milton Rotary Denim & Diamonds Ticket Refund & Postponement/Cancellation Policy
 
Refunds
All Gala tickets that were purchased through cash or cheque will be refunded in full, without penalty, with a request prior to April 13, 2020 by the buyer to Milton Rotary. Please send an e-mail to MiltonRotary7080@gmail.com to request your refund(s).
 
All Gala tickets that were purchased by PayPal will also be refunded, upon processing by PayPal, with a request prior to April 13, 2020 from the ticket buyer to Milton Rotary. Milton Rotary will not charge any additional fees for refund requests, however, PayPal does charge transaction fees for credit card processing, as well as a per transaction fee, which in total is roughly 3% of the subtotal ticket purchase.
 
Unforeseen & Force Majeure Events Leading to Postponement or Cancellation
Should the event organizers (Milton Rotary) be forced to postpone or cancel the event due to unforeseen or force majeure events, such as, but not limited to, acts of God, the aforementioned ticket refund policy is immediately null and void, however, Milton Rotary will work with PayPal International to issue refunds, in full or part, to the best of its ability, in the spirit of goodwill.
 
*REFUND UPDATE*
We are currently working with PayPal to resolve and process all PayPal refunds as soon as possible. Due to COVID-19, many of PayPal's international support centres are currently closed. As a result, PayPal's refund processing is moving a greatly reduced pace. As of Thursday, March 19th, 2020, PayPal International is considering requests by registered charities to waive all credit card processing fees for charitable events around the globe that have been cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. Milton Rotary has placed a formal request for those fees to be waived on all 2020 D&D Gala ticket purchases. PayPal has advised Milton Rotary that they hope to have a formal ruling and policy in place next week, and a response to our request by approximately March 26th.
